DemonsITV’s new show Demons has received a lot of criticism calling it a British Buffy: The Vampire Slayer (except not good). And for the most part it’s true.

Like Buffy, Luke discovers that he’s descended from a long line of demon slayers. The last Van Helsing, a fact his mother is oblivious of. He’s even got a good vampire as a teammate and a mentor named Rupert. But that’s where the similarities end.

Rupert’s American accent isn’t the only thing that’s off, his dialogue is unbelievably over the top. Every other word is about “smiting” and the rest are all cliches. In one scene Rupert tells Luke to “use the force,” which I’ll admit I found rather funny but then again not everyone has my sophisticated sense of humor. Later when Luke’s (not) girlfriend Ruby is kidnapped the not-so-subtle chorus of Kaiser Chiefs’ Ruby is blasted while he searches the city for her. It’s almost as if the characters names were selected just for these bits.

As silly as it is, let’s not forget about seasons 5 & 6 of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and the greatness that is Buffybot. So if you like the cheesier parts of Buffy you might wanna check it out (Unofficial Trailer right).
