Comedy Central’s new series Ugly Americans is about a social worker named Mark Lilly, who lives in an alternate version of New York that intersects with Hell.
But unlike most monster shows, these monsters are perfectly integrated into the world and have no shock value on the humans they live among, and therefore they have no shock value on the viewer.
The “jokes” are a series of matter-of-fact puns, such as a traffic reporter describing congestion from a Yeti convention as “hairy.”
The only saving grace is Mark’s hot demonic boss/girlfriend and a wizard, who magics away all his problems.
Initially the ratings might be decent considering the lead-in is new episodes of South Park but there’s no chance in Hell that Ugly Americans gets another season.
