The Boondocks is a comic strip and cartoon filled with controversial characters but none more so than Uncle Ruckus, a self-hating black man who loves white people and everything about them.
Creator Aaron McGruder wants to do a live-action movie starring voice actor Gary Anthony Williams as Uncle Ruckus.
“There’s always been interest in a live-action Boondocks movie, which to me was out of the question considering Huey and Riley are essentially impossible to cast,” explains McGruder. “The animated feature would cost around 20 million, but a live action Uncle Ruckus movie could cost a fraction of that. So just for the hell of it we had the costume made and it was pretty amazing. To see Gary actually transform into Uncle Ruckus… it’s quite the surreal experience. I never expected the transition to be so completely seamless.”
Obviously ‘the man’ does not want to see this movie happen so McGruder is raising funds through Kickstarter. The pledge levels range for $1 to $10,000. They’re named after great white Americans starting with Honey Boo Boo and all the way up to Ronald Reagan, who promised Ruckus a place in white heaven in “The Passion of Reverend Ruckus” (video below). There’s even a Hangathon level where to can hang out with your Uncle Ruckus!
The campaign is only half way to its $200,000 goal with only 5 days to go! But we can make it if just 4,000 people pledge $25, which includes Uncle Ruckus Movie DVD + backer button + digital downloads of photo & tracks. If the goal isn’t reached there’s no charge so what are you waiting for the second coming of white Jesus?
