Charlton Heston moses
Esquire magazine was inundated with cynical reactions to its feature on Dr. Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon who gave a fanciful account of his own near-death experience in the besting-selling book Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife. Alexander described riding on giant butterfly that had its own theme music! In fairness, he says might have just been really small.

In November’s issue, the magazine published the following response by Keith Miller, who spent three weeks in a coma after a motorcycle accident.

“The light said he was God and that I had to stay dead or go back to life. I said to the light, ‘You’re full of shit. Make yourself visible so I know who I am talking to,’ He replied, ‘Okay. Close your eyes, then open them and you will be able to see me.’ When I did, I saw a bearded man who looked like the Jesus Christ from pictures I had seen in churches or books. I said, ‘This is not real. I’m Jewish, and God is not Jesus Christ.’ The bearded man then said, ‘Close your eyes and think of me as whoever you want.’ I closed my eyes and thought of him as Moses. I then opened my eyes and saw Charlton Heston — I guess I didn’t know what Moses looked like. I said to him, ‘That’s better. Now I believe you.'”

Miller says he decided to return because Heaven was boring, Heston notwithstanding.
