Peter Capaldi shows off new costume for Doctor Who

No bow tie. No fez. No frills!

When Peter Capaldi steps into the shoes of the Doctor this Autumn it will be in some very fitting Dr. Martens boots and a no-nonsense suit by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

“He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past,” Capaldi told the BBC. “Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100% Rebel Time Lord.”

Not surprisingly, executive producer Steven Moffat head over heels about the “suited and booted” look but some Whovians are less enthusiastic so Capaldi took to Twitter to gauge their reaction.

“Some very mixed response to the new costume. What do you think?” he tweeted with the hashtag #nofrills.

Personally, I think it’s reminiscent of the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee). Not just the red lining of the coat but also the pose, which makes it look like he’s about to do some sort of magical martial arts, either that or he’s about to shoot some webbing out like Spider-Man. Either way, my fanboy sense is tingling!
