Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude introduces Nebula and Gamora (Karen Gillan)
Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude #1 introduces Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), the bionic woman featured in the movie trailer. Both women begin life as loyal servants of the galactic despot Thanos. The story is told from the perspective of Nebula, who is the weaker of the two women, at least initially. Nebula has a contentious relationship with Gamora from the start. She’s nearly killed when Gamora betrays her to claim all the glory for herself. Thanos enhances her with cybernetic body parts but it’s still not enough to keep up with Gamora. Nebula is ensnared in a laser net on their final mission to retrieve an orb that will be the focus of the film. Undeterred, she severs her arm to escaped.

“Weakness must be cast aside for the sake of power,” she echos her master’s teachings.

Nebula emerges stronger and more loyal than ever to Thanos. That spells bad news for her former frenemy Gamora, who joins up with superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy that’s also after the orb.

The next issue will feature Guardians of the Galaxy teammates and BFFs: Rocket Raccoon and Groot, a genetically engineered raccoon and humanoid tree, respectively.
