Rape is never funny, unless it’s all just a big misunderstanding. Rob Schneider’s new sitcom Rob pays homage to the anime School Rumble in which a naked guy, who’s in the wrong place at the wrong time, grabs a girl to stop her from screaming. Of course, that only makes things worse!

The Fringe mid-season finale had the show’s lowest ratings yet, dipping below 3 million viewers. And with Supernatural and Grimm both airing new episodes tomorrow, the mid-season premiere could be even lower.

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly admits the show isn’t profitable. “The hesitation in my voice is that it’s an expensive show. We lose a lot of money on the show,” said Reilly. “But with that rating on that night it’s almost impossible for us to make money on it. We’re not in the business of losing money. We need to figure out if there’s a [deal with studio Warner Bros. that] will make sense or will this be it.”

Reilly says he’s not doing a “soft cancel” and doesn’t want to start a letter-writing campaign, which rarely works anyway. Once Fringe is canceled you can’t just wish yourself to a parallel dimension where it was never canceled. If you want to make sure Fringe has a proper ending there’s lots of things you can do now, not least of which is actually watching. Even if you’re not a Nielsen household, buzz starts with you!

It’s all about Benjamins (or Juniors), buy Fringe DVDs or download episodes (legally). Even watching for free on Hulu generates ad revenue. Heck, go to http://www.fox.com/fringe/ and click an ad, just don’t do nothing then complain when it ends with a cliffhanger.

When Lee Standish (Ben Koldyke) and Angel Ortiz (Amaury Nolasco) are laid off in the “man-cession” they decide to dress for success. To get hired as pharmaceuticals sales reps that means cross-dressing to play nurse with doctor clients, who are apparently all male.

Hilarity ensues.

These Bosom Buddies have far less chemistry than their 80s counterparts. In part because Lee is married man who has little in common with his friend. While Lee puts himself in his wife’s shoes both literally and figuratively, Angel seems to have been added purely to hit on his attractive co-workers.

The jokes feel as forced as a football player in a dress, literally. Lee mistakenly leaves football on his resume, which he explains away as lingerie football. Of course, the gullible manager buys it because Work It makes no attempt whatsoever to encourage suspension of disbelief. It’s all about the innate absurdity of men pretending to be women, and GLAAD isn’t happy about that.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation placed a full-page ad in media industry publication Daily Variety warning that “By encouraging the audience to laugh at the characters’ attempts at womanhood, the show gives license to similar treatment of transgender women.”

Despite the controversy and little competition from other networks, which aired repeats, the Work It premiere had lower ratings than Man Up!, the cancelled show it replaced. Hoping to avoid the same fate, Amaury Nolasc addressed his Twitter followers. “Trust me, when I say it gets even better. I promise,” he tweeted.

In a very special holiday episode of Community, the gang gets into the Christmas spirit whether they like it or not. The Glee teacher recruits Jeff and his friends after an anonymous tip about copyright infringement shuts the glee club down. One by one they are seduced by song into joining, and I do mean seduced. Annie gives Jeff a lap dance while parodying Madonna’s cutesy version of “Santa Baby” which climaxes with the line “Boop-dee boop-dee doop, boop… sex.” Jeff tells her “eventually you hit a point of diminishing returns on the sexiness,” but that doesn’t stop him from signing up to see more.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t get an encore performance because the show’s a bust when it’s revealed that the instructor murdered the previous glee club. But you can see Alison Brie singing the real version without all the cutey wootsy crap in her very sexy audition for Christmas Idol (video bottom).

Fans of anime and manga series Ranma ½ have long wondered if Ranma, the gender bending protagonist who transforms into a woman when splashed with cold water, could ever become pregnant. To which creator Rumiko Takahashi answers, “I don’t think about that, and neither should you.”

Well apparently one of the writers on the British TV series Misfits has been thinking about it. In season 3 episode 6, a boy who possesses the super power to voluntarily transform between genders, becomes stuck in his female form when he gets pregnant… by himself! The result of masturbating in his female form right after wanking in his male form (see how important it is to wash your hands). Fortunately for him, an abortion is as simple as swapping powers with someone else.

Presumably if Ranma got pregnant he would also get stuck in his female form and have to end the curse to end the pregnancy (as opposed to real life where you have end the pregnancy to end the curse).

FX’s new series American Horror Story is like a erotic version of The Shining. Instead of a ghost bartender poisoning the father with alcohol, there’s a ghost maid seducing the father with her very tangible body.

Ben is surprised that his wife hires Moria (Alex Breckenridge) given his past adultery but it has less to do with her open-mindedness than the fact that women can see Moira’s true form, that of an old woman (Frances Conroy) whose ghostly eye still bares the evidence of the gunshot that killed her. Incidentally, Frances Conroy’s eye is not a special effect, it’s an actually malady that was worked into the script.

Young Moira constantly teases Ben but when ever his wife walks in Old Moira makes an appearance. Moira later explains, “I’m not naive to the ways of men. They need to objectify, conquer. They see what they want to see. Woman however see into the soul of a person.”

She’s absolutely right. Women are not things to be objectified. Luckily, Moria’s a ghost not a woman.

On the season premiere of Community, Abed fell into a deep depression upon learning Cougar Town had been cancelled. Britta brought him out of his funk by introducing him to a long running British television series called Inspector Spacetime, an obvious parody of Doctor Who complete the time travel cliches. In the the opening scene, the supporting character asks where they are and the lead character replies “the question isn’t where but when.” Consequently, it wasn’t a question of if Inspector Spacetime would be referenced again but when. During the credits of “Advanced Gay,” Abed and Troy reenact the scene with hilarious results (video below).

This aptly named Toyota Prius commercial features a giant person made up of regular-sized people. Its jaw literally drops when it sees the new Prius Family, which like the People Person has unraveled into many.

It’s so surreal that you think it has to be computer generated, but the commercial was designed to real as possible and uses dancers strapped together and suspended by wire. It’s the work of The Sweet Shop and Director Mr. Hide, who has done several similar (but less creepy) spots using people as landscape.

Last weekend, Fox Network got hit by Hurricane Flozell, a storm so big that its effects were felt by all three of Seth MacFarlane’s series (Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show). In “Seahorse Seashell Party” the Griffins get trapped inside… with no power! Fresh out of Star Wars stories to tell, the family fights among themselves but Brian decides to ride out the storm with some magic mushrooms. To say he has a bad trip is an understatement. He descends into Hell and witnesses some of the most disturbing scenes imaginable like snakes coming out of Lois’ eyes and Peter getting roasted alive. It might be the most effective anti-drug PSA ever (video below).

Last season, Ned Flanders and Edna Krabappel took a summer break after he learned about her promiscuous past. The fate of Nedna was left up to a higher power – the fans.

The Simpsons season opener “The Falcon and the D’ohman” revealed the couple is still together. In fact, they’re sleeping together… in the same bed! This raises even more questions like are they married now or is Ned a fornicator!?

The episode ends with Ned and Edna thanking the fans but they are interrupted by Seymour Skinner who contests the results due to the fact that he was not included as an option. In typical fashion, Seymour’s mother shoots him down. She tells him not only is he too late but that he’ll never give her a grandchild.
