In the first of four feature-length (90 min) films, Futurama: Bender’s Big Score, the Planet Express is resurrected after being canceled by Box Network (a not so subtle dig at Fox Network) to face the most heinous threat to Earth yet – SPAM!
Talk about action-packed! The plot which revolves around naked aliens scamming the human race out their own planet, thanks to the discovery of the time-sphere code tattooed on Fry’s ass, leads Fry to escape to the past where a mind-controlled Bender must hunt him down like the dog he is! There are numerous Terminator references, of course. This movie crams in just about every character ever including: Al Gore, Hypnotoad, Morbo, Santa & Kwanzaa bot, Nixon’s head, Zap Brannigan, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Scruffy. There so much going on that you might not think there’s a coherent story here. But you’d be wrong.
Bender’s Big Score for all its jokes and action is primarily a love triangle story between Fry, Leela, and the mysterious Lars. All I’ll say about how it turns out is that Fry + Leela fans will not be disappointed!
Without a doubt this is the best written episode of the series. Throw in a ton of extras like commentary, deleted story boards, an episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad, and A Terrifying Message From Al Gore (an animated promo for An Inconvenient Truth), as Bender would say, this DVD’s good enough to steal!
Futurama: Bender’s Big Score gets a 4 finger discount outta 4 fingers!
