A day late and a dollar short, CNN (video) is finally vetting Barack Obama – after he’s already won! (oh well, it won’t help Clinton but it’s great ammunition for Republicans)
The so-called “candidate of change” wasn’t exactly following his mantra when he ran for the Illinois Senate back in 1996. Rather than campaign against his opponents on issues, Obama challenged their voting petition signatures. If a signature collector wasn’t properly registered or a name was printed instead of written in cursive it was thrown out. Eventually Obama disqualified all this opponents in this manner and won his party’s nomination unopposed. According to Will Burns, a campaign volunteer at the time, “It was not something he particularly relished. It was not something that I thought he was happy about doing.”
So despite misgivings about his tactics he did it anyway. Barack Obama = politics as usual.
