google and verizon - net neutralityThe F.C.C. is supposed to ensure that all internet traffic is treated equally, net neutrality, but ever since a court decision in April put its power to do so in doubt, companies have been moving full speed ahead with bandwidth throttling.

Google and Verizon are in private talks to redefine what net neutrality means. Google CEO Eric Schmidt maintains “People get confused about net neutrality. I want to make sure that everybody understands what we mean about it. What we mean is that if you have one data type, like video, you don’t discriminate against one person’s video in favor of another. It’s OK to discriminate across different types.” Types that could be proprietary and lead to a two tier system where companies pay for prioritization. Perhaps it’s time for Google to change its motto from ‘do no evil’ to ‘do know evil.’
