New TARDIS and Opening for Doctor Who Christmas Special 2012
The holidays are here, and the TARDIS is getting decorated … on the inside!

“The exterior of the time machine will remain the reassuring blue box but once inside we’ll see a whole new magical world that will be home to the Doctor and Clara throughout their adventures which continue in spring, 2013 with eight epic episodes,” revealed the BBC.

The BBC and Doctor Who Magazine, they have release several teaser images of the new console room, which I’ve pieced together in the above picture. The lower left quadrant was missing so I Photoshopped in 3 more wall panels. There’s also a more complete photo that has Matt showing off his new ride (below).

Since the Doctor Who reboot, the console room has had an organic look but this “new” TARDIS is reminiscent of older designs. The new console is angular, and the room seems darker and colder which is befitting given the Doctor’s gloomy mood since losing his most recent companions, Amy and Rory.

Doctor Who Christmas Special New TARDIS

The new TARDIS will get also get an update opening complete with “revamped” music.

“And fans of the famous Doctor Who theme tune needn’t worry…” they promise. “This new arrangement remains true to the original, written by Ron Grainer back in 1963, but on Christmas Day you’ll hear it as it’s never sounded before. This latest version is more thrilling and powerful but retains that slightly scary quality that remains stirring no matter how many times you catch it.”

Doctor Who openings of the past have been mostly faithful to the original, except for the movie version.
