The biggest alien coverup occurred 1983 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Atari buried E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, considered to be the worst game ever. The company dumped truckloads of the unsold game cartridges in a local landfill, according to a New York Times article.
On the 30th anniversary, the site will be excavated for a documentary by Fuel Industries.
“E.T. was one of the first video games ever based on a licensed property, and one of the earliest and most poignant examples of mass overhyping in digital entertainment.” Mike Burns, CEO of Fuel Entertainment, said in a statement provided to the Post. “With the city of Alamogordo’s approval, we’re currently looking forward to moving further into the planning and preparation process – we don’t know exactly what we’ll find, but it’s bound to be interesting.”
