Futurama Final Episode Preview (Meanwhile)
Futurama’s final episode “Meanwhile” will culminate with the wedding of Fry and Leela. It might seem like a shotgun wedding since they’re not even engaged yet but the couple will have lots of time to tie the knot when Fry breaks Professor Farnsworth’s time machine and freezes everyone but them.

“It’s a high degree of difficulty to get a touching ending in a crazy science-fiction cartoon where some character are not even human beings,” Executive Produced David X. Cohen told TV Guide. “If you get people emotionally invested in robots and lobsters, then you’ve achieved some success.”

Cohen says it’s a bloody good episode.

“It’s a very emotional episode that also has a lot of blood splattering,” he teased. “In my heart I feel like it really is the end. The episode is so satisfying to me [that] it almost feels like we’d be wasting it if we came back again.”

The characters will make one last appearance in a Futurama Simpsons crossover, in which Bender travels back in time to kill Bart to stop him causing something very bad to happen in the future.

The series finale will air on September 4 with a pre-show and post-show video chat hosted by Chris Hardwick on Comedy Central and Nerdist. Guests include creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, cast members Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Phil LaMarr and Lauren Tom, writer Patric M. Verrone and animator Pete Avanzino.
