Marvel has released a 15 second teaser for the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer in advance of its debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight. The trailer will be presented by star Chris Pratt who plays Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, leader of an intergalactic superhero team. His teammates include two green-skinned humanoid characters: Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana), as well as two completely CG characters: Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), a genetically engineered raccoon, and Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like alien. Groot’s vocabulary consists solely of “I am Groot.” Fortunately, the very mouthy raccoon can understand him.
Guardians of the Galaxy introduce themselves in new trailer
The teaser appears to show Quill in a prison presumably put there by Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) who is working for Thanos, the villain that made a cameo at the end of The Avengers.
The full trailer shows the Guardians being incarcerated for attempting to steal an orb. The team is conveniently introduced while being processed. The head guard (John C. Reilly) notes that Quill is pretty much the only one who calls him as Star-Lord. Quill responds by giving the middle finger, which he does by pretending to reeling it in like a fishing rod. If the gesture seems dated, it’s because he was taken from Earth back in the 80s. The nostalgia doesn’t stop there. One the guards confiscates his Walkman (analog iPod to you Millennials), which is playing the 80s hit “Hooked On A Feeling” by Blue Swede. Chants of “Ooga chaka” permeate the room and serve as a very primal soundtrack that is until the singing starts, which instantly changes the feel from action to humor but what else would you expect from director James Gunn (Lollipop Chainsaw and PG Porn).
