Superheroes have become exceedingly gritty. Heck, Batman’s most recent Robin was a homicidal clone. Fear not, citizen. Amazon is bringing back The Tick whose sidekick is a pudgy accountant named Arthur. The campy series is being written and produced by Ben Edlund, who created the original comic and TV show.
The leading role will be reprised by Patrick Warburton, who has provided his super deep voice for many macho men such as Joe Swanson on Family Guy and Brock Samson on The Venture Bros. The Tick possesses superhuman strength and nigh-invulnerability but his real power is “drama power” the ability to make situations more dramatic than they actually are. When the Tick senses evil afoot he lets out his bizarre battle cry “Spoon!” Arthur, on the other hand, pleads with the villains “Not in the face!”
Warburton’s former co-stars included David Burke (Joan of Arcadia) as Arthur AKA Arthur, a moth costumed superhero who is often mistaken for a rabbit without his retractable wings, Liz Vassey (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) as Captain Liberty, a Wonder Woman parody, and Nestor Carbonell (Bates Motel) as Batmanuel, a Batman parody. It’s possible that they could also reprise their roles given their fond memories of their time on show. Vassey frequently tweets about the series and Carbonell has a photo of himself as Batmanuel for his twitter avatar.
