Fate saves Canary against the wishes of Nabu, the Lord of Order that inhabits and empowers his magical helmet. He transports mother and child to a parallel Earth where Oliver is still alive but her doppelganger died 5 years ago. Fate can’t guarantee them happiness but Cupid can. Oliver immediately shows his feelings and calls Canary by her pet name.

“Hello, pretty bird,” he smiles tearfully.

Her escape doesn’t come a moment too soon. Yellow Lantern Superman’s ring is supercharged by the fear of everyone watching him through a live feed, which Batman doesn’t shut off in time. Superman easily defeats the Green Lanterns’ remaining heavy hitters: the Guardian of the Universe, Ganthet, and his sentient planet, Mogo. Superman throws the planet into the Sun with its Guardian along from the ride.

You might wonder why Fate doesn’t simply whisk evil Superman away. Even if Nabu allowed him, it would presumably take time and concentration that he would not be afforded by Superman. Fate could still play role in stopping Superman given his well-known weakness to magic. Another formidable opponent is Yellow Lantern Hal Jordan, who is beginning to have second thoughts about siding with Sinestro after witnessing the slaughter of his former teammates some by his own hand.
