Star Wars 7 trailer stars John Boyega as black Stormtrooper

Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens stars an all-new cast of characters starting with John Boyega (Attack the Block) as a black Stormtrooper, which is peculiar because originally they were clones of Jango Fett. Of course for all we know he could just be in disguise, which is the perfect setup for an off-color joke based on Princess Leia’s famous quote “Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?” What’s inside the Stormtroopers armor isn’t the only thing that’s changed. The helmets have a much sleeker look as if they were designed by Apple.

R2-D2 has also been redesigned as a soccer ball! Now C-3PO can literally kick him around.

Daisy Ridley flees on a clunky Speeder bike. She looks strikingly similar to Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) and reportedly plays the daughter of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher).

A menacing figure who may or may not be Adam Driver (Inside Llewyn Davis) wields a red lightsaber featuring a crossguard, which has it own unique sound effect. If only Anakin had one of these perhaps Count Dooku wouldn’t have cut off his hand and set him on a path to becoming an unfeeling machine.

In space no one can hear your scream so Director J. J. Abrams seems to be opting for a more sound approach. Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) pilots an X-wing squadron across water and the Millennium Falcon flying dangerously low to the ground. It could just be an excuse to show a cool wake effect or perhaps there’s a reason everyone is flying so low… like a new Death Star?
