Saturday Night Live tribute to Jon Lovitz

Regrettably, not everyone could attend the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special. Host Bill Murray introduced an In Memoriam piece that honored deceased cast members Andy Kaufman, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Charles Rocket, Danitra Vance, Jan Hooks, Phil Hartman and Chris Farley. The show also paid its respects to those on the other side of the camera including writers, band members and stage crew. It concluded by noting the passing of actor Jon Lovitz, who was in attendance and raised his hands in shock at the indignity. Murray continued to lighten the mood with a callback to a classic bit lampooning the news reports about the impending death of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.

“This just came in from Spain: Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead,” Murray joked.
