Sesame Street rickrolls 80s music fans Cookie Monster Grover Count
Today’s episode of Sesame Street is brought to you by the number 8 and the letter O. The Muppets form a glee club to perform 80s songs but Cookie Monster eats the lyrics as well as the iPhone containing the music. Fortunately, they’re able to play the music from inside his stomach and they make up their own kid-friendly lyrics.

There are lots of Easter Eggs delivered between songs. Grover quotes the titular lyric from “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen. And Prairie Dawn paraphrases lyrics from “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” by Daryl Hall & John Oates and “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. When Prairie Dawn calls for the final countdown, the assumption is that the last song will be “The Final Countdown” by Europe. However, we get rickrolled, an internet meme where someone tricks you into clicking a link to the music video for “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.

Sesame Street song parodies:

“Footloose” by Kenny Loggins
“Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club with frontman Boy George
“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by (Robert Hazard) Cyndi Lauper
“Come On Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners
“Super Freak” by Rick James
“Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham!
“Take On Me” by A-ha
“Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey
“Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley
