Just when you thought your favorite horror movie monsters couldn’t get any more scary, Funko turns them into . . . JOCKS! These muscle-bound monsters are part of the Savage World toy line, which pays homage to the classic He-Man action figures. It focuses on similar style franchises like Mortal Kombat, Thundercats and Conan the Barbarian. However, Funko isn’t afraid to flex its imagination.
“We want to try to find licenses that really work with this form factor and feel good in this buff style,” VP of Creative Ben Butcher explains. “And if they maybe don’t naturally work then we want to put a filter over to give them a fantasy, savage kind of feel to their look as we’ve done with the horror figures.”
The Savage World Horror collection reimagines Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Pinhead and Leatherface as Masters of the Universe figures. Even Skeletor wouldn’t want to face off against these brutes who bare their teeth while flexing like He-Man. But they don’t just have his powerful physique. They also have his fashion sense — barbarian chic. They’re draped leather right down to their animal skin boots lined with fur. And their tops taper down below the belt to replicate the look of He-Man’s furry loincloth.
True to form, Savage World figures are 5 ½ inches tall and have 6 points of articulation at the shoulders, hips, waist and neck . . . er, head. Unfortunately, the waist does not have the trademark twisting action that snaps back in place, though that makes for better figure posing.
Ironically, the over-size muscles actually make these demonic killers less intimidating. It’s like seeing God with a gun. They scream kitsch and are perfect for fans of the films franchises’ more campy moments like Super Freddy and cyborg Jason. Funko will release these treats just in time for Halloween.
