Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty literally crashed The Simpsons season finale “Mathlete’s Feat.” The couch gag opens with the adventurers crushing the family with their spaceship. Rick tells his naive grandson to collect their DNA to regrow them but he really just wants him out-of-the-way while he steals their valuables.
Morty uses a DNA copy machine on an alien world filled with Easter Eggs from Simpons‘ creator Matt Groening’s sci-fi themed series Futurama including the Planet Express delivery spaceship (0:54), the soft drink Slurm (0:56) and Brain Slugs (1:35), as well as Simpsons‘ resident aliens Kang and Kodos (1:25). The Simpsons are mostly restored though they bear a striking resemblance to Rick, who reveals he cleaned out the test tubes with his saliva.
“No more guest animators, man,” Bart insists.
This isn’t the first time Rick and Morty have landed themselves in trouble. Adult Swim created an actual UFO crash landing as viral marketing for the cartoon series debut.
Rick and Morty season 2 premieres Sunday, July 26 on Adult Swim.
