In what may be the lamest superhero origin story ever, Workforce Central Florida has spent $14,000 (tax dollars) on capes for the unemployed.

The public relations campaign dubbed the “Cape-A-Bility Challenge” encourages these zeroes to become heroes by taking a photo with a cardboard cutout villain named Dr. Evil Unemployment for “the opportunity to win $1,000 prize packs.”

Dr. Evil Unemployment gets a taste of his own medicine.

After numerous complaints about insensitivity and waste, the campaign was pulled. “The decision was made today by our volunteer board leadership team in concern that the campaign may have been a little too out-of-the-box and missed the mark with such a broad audience,” WCF stated in a press release.
