Saturday Night Live head writer Seth Meyers is teaming up with former SNL producer Michael Shoemaker to create a new superhero cartoon. The Awesomes is about “an unassuming superhero and his cohorts battle diabolical villains, the ever-present paparazzi, and a less-than-ideal reputation as second-class crime fighters.” It will debut on Hulu in 2013, as part of the company’s move toward original programming, but has been in development since 2007. Lorne Michaels’ production company, Broadway Video, hired artist Steve Rolston to do the characters designs, which are based on various Saturday Night Live alumni. The project has since been handed to animation studio Bento Box (Bob’s Burgers, Allen Gregory, Neighbors from Hell).
