As Above So Below puts a different perspective on the found footage genre by literally turning it on its head. Urban archaeologist Scarlet Marlowe (Perdita Weeks) leads an expedition into the catacombs beneath Paris in search of a hidden chamber. A cave in forces them to journey deeper until they find themselves upside down in Hell, where they are haunted by dark memories made real. The title originates from Hermeticism founded by Hermes Trismegistus (“Thrice Great”).

“That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracle of the One Thing.” reads the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus.

The mirror theme is featured in the movie posters including an upside down version of Eiffel Tower and a statue of a demon juxtaposed with an angel that reads: “Abandona toda esperanza” or “Abandon all hope.”

Unlike older found footage films that use shaky cams, high quality GoPro cams are used so you can feel like your there but still see the scares that don’t include motion sickness.

The film is written and directed by The Brothers Dowdle, Drew and John Erick, (Quarantine and Devil) and stars Ben Feldman (Friday the 13th), Edwin Hodge (The Purge), James Pasierbowicz (Season of Miracles), Josh Kervarec and Oscar Zhang.
