This year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, “The Snowmen,” premiered a new opening that harkens back to BCE (Before Christopher Eccleston). It’s got a lot more going on visually than the endless vortex featured in recent years. There are heavenly bodies such as stars, nebula and the superimposed face of Matt Smith!
The theme music has been “revamped” to match the visuals but the show’s producers kept their word to be “true to the original.” The only differences are new title sound effects and the ending no long has those eerie vocals.
It concludes with the TARDIS’ doors opening (outward) and revealing the opening scene because it’s bigger on the inside, despite a cheeky companion’s claim that “it’s smaller on the outside.”
