Doritos UK is promoting its Mexican-inspired snack with a mariachi cover band called Mariachi Doritos. “For fun … Add a little Mexican” reads the tagline for the campaign by AMV BBDO.
The band, Roberto (vocals/vihuela guitar), Salvador (vocals/guitaron), Farman (guitar), Limber (accordion) and Terry “Juan” (trumpet), performs British hits like “Monster” by The Automatic, “Don’t You Want Me Baby” by Human League, “Rio” by Duran Duran, “Love Machine” by Girls Aloud, and “Need You Tonight” by INXS.
They recently got into the spirit of Christmas with a cover of “Stay Another Day” by the British boy band East 17. They even made a music video parody that features an appearance by lead singer Tony Mortimer.
“Mariachi Doritos are great guys,” Mortimer said. “It was really fun collaborating with them and giving our classic song a bit of a Mexican twist!”
Mariachi Doritos also performs original songs for house parties via webcam, which can be seen on the Doritos UK YouTube channel
