The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXIV was super freaky. The third and final story “Freaks no Geeks” is a parody of the classic horror movie Freaks (1932), in which strongman Hercules and the beautiful trapeze artist Cleopatra trick a circus midget named Hans into a sham marriage for his money.
In this version, trapezist Marguerite marries the circus freak Moe but her intentions are completely innocent. The scheme is the idea of Homer who plays the Strongman, which is totally believable because “he’s in the best shape anyone is in the 1930s.”
Upon learning his plan, the Strongman is kick out of Marguerite’s trailer, where he finds the circus freaks waiting for him.
“One of us! One of us! Gooble goo! Gooble goo!” they chant despite admitting not knowing what it means. “We don’t know! We don’t know!”
This time it’s the Strongman that’s transformed into a “human duck” though it seems to work out better for him than it did for Cleopatra. During the credits, newspaper clippings show that he goes on to become a celebrity.
