This week’s episode of The Walking Dead “Claimed” opened with zombies attacking a balloon on a street sign. At first glance, this may seem a brainless thing to do but it makes total sense. Think about it. Watch any zombie apocalypse movie and you’ll notice a distinct lack of balloons. That’s because these plump little guys are the zombie’s natural prey. They simply mistake our big heads on skinny necks for a balloon on a string.
Naysayers will point out that Glenn distracted the walkers by blowing up a car in the previous episode “Inmates” but a balloon makes almost no movement or sound. If they were so observant Michonne wouldn’t be able to walk among them while holding the clanking chains on her pet zombies.
