The X-Men Days of Future Past post credits scene gives us the first look at the upcoming sequel X-Men: Apocalypse. The minute long scene is set in ancient Egypt where a large group of worshipers chant “En Sabah Nur” AKA Apocalypse, one of the first mutants. He believes in survival of the fittest even if it means the extinction of mutants.
A young Apocalypse is seen constructing the pyramids through telekinesis. In the distance are his four horsemen: Death, Famine, Pestilence and War. These brainwashed mutants have had their powers enhanced to serve as his elite guard.
X-Men: Apocalypse is loosely based on the “Age of Apocalypse” storyline which takes place in an alternate timeline where Magneto leads the X-Men after Professor X dies protecting him from his time traveling son, Legion. Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) will return along with director Bryan Singer in the sequel.
“You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse,” Singer told Entertainment Weekly. “What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”
