An evil Superman has conquered the world after the death Lois and their unborn baby. There was surprisingly little resistance from superheroes possessing magic, one of his few weaknesses. The magicians are in hiding from an even more powerful magical entity in league with Superman. John Constantine swears to take down the dictator for getting the mother his daughter killed in his war with the Green Lanterns. In Injustice Gods Among Us: Year Three #3, Constantine gathers his allies at the home of Jason Blood, a Knight of the Round Table with the power to transform into the demon Etrigan. Detectives Renee Montoya and Harvey Bullock look noticeably out of place among the superheroes. Bullock starts to walk out the door but Detective Chimp manages to convince him to stay for Commissioner Gordon, who died trying to stop Superman.
Harvey’s change of heart comes to late. Opening the door breaks a magical seal protecting the house. Harvey is unable to close the door so Jason attempts to summon Etrigan but he is vaporized before he can transform. Renee cries out for her partner, who is killed in the blast. Detective Chimp is gravely injured but fortunately Dr. Harley Quinn Medicine woman is on call. The entity is revealed to be The Spectre, the Spirit of Vengeance. They make their escape while Batman talks to the Spectre “one man of vengeance to another.”
The Spectre is usually a force for good. He is a servant of the Voice of God, which ironically appears in the form of a dog, specifically a Scottish Terrier. Nevertheless, he still possess free will and often goes astray. If he doesn’t see the light, the only hope of stopping him may be divine intervention.
